Richard K. Thomas, M.D. graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1980 and earned his medical degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine in 1984. He completed an internship at Memorial Hospital South Bend followed by a research fellowship in orthopaedic oncology at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke's Medical Center in Chicago. He completed an orthopaedic residency at the University of Missouri, Kansas City, Missouri, from 1986 to 1990 followed by a hand and microsurgery fellowship at the Christine M. Kleinert Institute for Hand and Microsurgery in Louisville, Kentucky.
Dr. Thomas has been practicing hand and microsurgery in the Chicagoland area since 1991. Dr. Thomas, with Drs. Showalter, Kiesler, Ling and Bendre maintain the largest practice devoted solely to care of the hand and upper extremity in the western suburbs.
Dr. Thomas is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery with a Certificate of Added Qualification in Surgery of the Hand. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, and the Chicago Society for Surgery of the Hand. He is a past chairman of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Central DuPage Hospital and past president of the Chicago Society for Surgery of the Hand.
